Last week, Travis did a livestream to celebrate their new album, 10 Songs. This band takes me back to high school when I saw them live (opening for Dido) and then got into one of my first academic debates after presenting a Travis song in my AP English class and clashing over its meaning with a visiting teacher. I listen to 10 Songs with much nostalgia in my heart.  The band has not lost their ability to play songs with a deceptive air of calm concealing an emotional intensity that slowly worms its way into you. Good stuff!

Last week, I attended a TV taping for a singing competition. And by “attended” I mean I sat at home on my computer while the show filmed myself and the rest of the virtual audience clap and cheer for the contestants as they performed. It was an interesting experience. I really do enjoy watching how people are adapting to the new normal, especially when it comes to music. I can report that at least our TV talent competitions are safe…

Outside of my dalliance with reality TV, I didn’t catch much in the way of live music last week.  I was too busy listening to Alanis Morrissette’s new album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road on repeat, an activity I highly recommend!  I have a few events logged into my calendar for next week including the aforementioned Biffy Clyro experience, two chances to see The Wrecks, and one of the first shows from Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves (full band!).
