Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 6/15-6/21

I’ve got the new Neon Trees song, “Songs I Can’t Listen To” running through my head on repeat. I was introduced to the song this week when I had the opportunity to see Neon Trees at the YouTube space in LA for a taping for What’s Trending. It was particularly cool because the set was basically CBGBs uprooted and transplanted into the YouTube studios.

Here’s the performance:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm0EfjK3rz0

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 6/8-6/14

Yesterday’s Make Music Pasadena was a much needed day full of music and friends. I was particularly excited about discovering a new band, Iceland’s Kaleo, who drew me in with a dreamy falsetto but kept me engaged with a surprising turn into the bluesy/rock world. I’ve also been enjoying some fabulous new albums. After seeing AWOLANTION last week, I’ve fallen for Run. Just listening to the title track gives me chills. I’ve also been obsessing over the new Dawes album, in particular the song “All Your Favorite Bands” which has a line that really speaks to me (just listen, you’ll know).

As for next week, my show pick would have to be Friday night at The Viper Room with The Filthy Souls, Badflower, and Ceasefire. I’m also looking forward to seeing Laney Jones and The Spirits on Saturday at The Hotel Cafe. This will be the first trip to LA for the Florida songstress.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/25-5/31

This week’s email comes to you from rural MD. In the past week I went from Philadelphia, to upstate NY, to this little town in MD where I am helping my college roommate demo her Jane Austen-esque house (a spontaneous purchase).  Between the travel and more computer and internet issues I care to go into, this has been far from a typical week. I have been put to work babysitting, dog-walking, landscaping, pulling nails from wooden planks, etc. On the plus side, there has been a lot of amazing food and a couple trips to my favorite ice cream shop which almost make up for the manual labor…

I am very happy to report that I come home this week. I can’t wait to get back to LA and my nightly routine of going to concerts.
