Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 5/18-5/24

Well, last week was a good one. I made it out to a few things including a quick trip up to LA and back. This week is a little more mellow for me. I will say, I went to The Merrow last night and I hadn’t been there since it changed over from Ruby Room and I was super impressed. It’s got a cool vibe and the space has been upgraded and most importantly, the sound has too. If there’s a show over there and you’re on the fence about it, it’s worth it.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar 5/18-5/24

I’m in the midst of East Coast travels. I was in DC most of last week and today I took a bus to Philadelphia to meet up with my mom to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant she chose was close to several of my old favorite concert venues so we walked around and I touched base with places like the TLA and Tin Angel. Tomorrow, the only thing on my agenda is to eat my favorite sandwich. I was hoping to find a good Monday night show, but most cities don’t have happening Mondays like Los Angeles.

Speaking of, tomorrow in LA is jam packed with great show options. The music continues throughout the week. The Grammy Museum is hosting two of my faves, The Milk Carton Kids and Dead Sara. Those will both be amazing in very very different ways. Also, one of my High Voltage On The Rise picks, Prides, are at The Echo Wednesday night. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/11-5/17

I was watching a baseball game today through a Pittsburg channel and was absolutely thrilled when before the game came back they would cut to a brief music video clip of an artist coming to town to play. There were some larger bands, but also some smaller ones that I had not heard of.  Along with the song there would be a note about where and when the band was playing. What a brilliant way to advertise for your local music scene!

This week, I’m traveling once again. My adventures will take me to Washington DC where I will visit the NIH and present some research at a conference. I’m also making a list of potential shows (obviously) and I’m excited to visit another DC venue.

I’m looking forward to catching a couple of my favorite LA bands before I go. Irontom is opening up the evening at The Echo Monday night and Dead Sara has three shows this week. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/4-5/10

I’m taking off in a few short hours to fly to South Carolina for a wedding which, despite being held on May the 4th, will not be Star Wars themed. A missed opportunity if you ask me! I was also saddened to note that the Columbia/Charleston area is not exactly musically boppin’ on a Monday or Tuesday night. Thankfully, this is not the case in Los Angeles where those early week nights are actually my preferred nights for live music. This week certainly doesn’t disappoint with an assortment of excellent (and mostly free) shows Monday night as well as the can’t miss Dark Waves residency Tuesday night at Dirty Laundry. Enjoy for me why don’t you!

Max and the Moon

matm promo

Max and the Moon from Chino Hills, Ca. are kicking off their first headlining tour in San Diego, gearing up for an EP release and are looking to take the world by storm. They play tomorrow at the House of Blues Voodoo Room and it’s definitely something you should check out. If you still need convincing, check out my chat with them and listen to their single Harps.

1. Tell us a little about who you are as a band.

– Max and the Moon is a band that loves looking forward to new things that will shape its career. We all take the opportunities we get as a band very seriously and always give it everything we got. But we also like to have fun and be creative while doing so. We’re always wanting to achieve more later down the road because we don’t like staying in one place and not growing continuously as writers and musicians. We like to think our new songs, Modern Love and Harps are a testament to that because we’ve developed our sound every chance we’ve gotten. So we’re excited for the future!

2. What can people expect from the live show?

– Well, we haven’t had a chance to play live since November of last year! So we are very excited to get back on stage, doing what we love to do. I think people can expect to see a lot of energy and connection with our fans. Also, we’re stoked to share our new songs live and see what everyone thinks of them.

3. What do you like about playing in San Diego?

– It’s always nice to be in front of such a welcoming group of people and every time we’ve played down here we’ve received awesome feedback from the fans. San Diego audiences are engaged and very respectful of the artist. That type of dedication to live entertainment pushes us to give everything we got. The town itself is beautiful and comforting. We think the people exude these same qualities.

4. Tell us about your upcoming EP MATM.

– We’ve worked very hard on the songs that are on the upcoming EP. We pulled ideas from the sounds that were on our The Way I See EP, a little bit of vocal influence from our writing with the Crazy EP, and also there is a lot of fresh grooves and moods the new songs give off. We tend to be most proud of anything new we’ve created and we can all personally say we care deeply about these brand new tunes.
