Last week was a busy one. From an intimate Jack Garratt show, dancing with Young Rising Sons, interviewing Aaron Bruno (AWOLNATION) before one of the best shows I’ve seen this year, and a full weekend of Comikaze craziness, I’m feeling a bit…tired? Aiming to go to bed early tonight to be ready for whatever adventures next week has in store…especially since Monday night is one of my fave LA bands, Badflower, at Lucky Strike in Hollywood.

The first round of SXSW 2016 attending artists was released last week. I was overjoyed to begin my annual spreadsheet. I already have a small handful of artists I’m looking forward to checking out.  Sometimes I think I live only for a single week in March…

A close rival to SXSW Music Week is Rocktober which is sadly coming to a close. My top pick is the too good to believe combination of AWOLNATION, Meg Myers, and Irontom at The Fox Theater in Pomona Friday night. There are also a couple great residencies this month including Ivy Levan at Dirty Laundry and White Sea at Booleg Bar – both free so don’t miss out!

I had the pleasure of seeing Hozier perform last night for The Artist’s Den and I’ve been obsessively listening to his music all weekend. Talk about soothing for the soul! When I first heard that I had gotten into the performance there was a bit of a panic as I had made plans that night to see the triumphant return of UK’s A Silent Film to The Troubadour. One of my favorite music buddies came to the rescue when she suggested I join her earlier in the week on her trip to SD to see A Silent Film at The Casbah. Problem solved! It was a very eventful trip and I am glad everything worked out so well.

This week might involve more fancy footwork, especially Wednesday night when I hope to catch Frank Turner at The Musician’s Institute followed by San Diego’s Mrs. Henry at Harvard & Stone. My other show pick this week is Thursday night: The Royal Concept with Parade of Lights (!!) at Club Bahia. I have yet to get to this venue so I look forward to checking it out.
