Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 2/18-2/24

It’s another sunny day in San Diego and while I was out enjoying it earlier, I’m glad to be back inside. I got a cold earlier this week and I’m still trying to get rid of the little bugger. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/18-2/24

Posted on February 17, 2013 by Kristen

When I’m sick, I try to do the “right thing” and not go out at night. It’s hard. Then, when I can’t get my music fix live, I reach out in other ways. Let’s just say this weekend, I spent way too much money on CDs and concert tickets. The combination of delirium and withdrawal is simply not good for my wallet.

Hopefully this flu will be gone by Monday so we can get this week off to a good start. Monday night, High Voltage Magazine is co-sponsoring the A House For Lions Show at The Echoplex so if you’re planning on checking this band out one of these Mondays (and you should), this would be the Monday I’d suggest. Also, one of my impulse buys on Friday was the twenty one pilots record. Now I’m even more excited about this band’s gig Wednesday night at The Troubadour.

New Music Tuesday 2/12/13 Featuring The Stone Foxes

Posted on February 12, 2013 by Kristen

The Stone Foxes – Small Fires

All hail The Stone Foxes, a fearsome foursome from SF whose album, Small Fires, comes out today. If you’re a fan of bluesy rock with a hint of face-melting guitar, this album is for you. If you favor songs that simmer for a bit before coming to boil, this album is for you. If you don’t like movin’ and groovin’ (or at least foot tappin’), then maybe you shouldn’t bother with this album as its tunes are the type that infect. The infection can be slow, but before you know it you WILL be bobbing you head and you will get odd looks from your co-workers (okay, maybe that last one is just me).

For a taste, here’s the video for the first single off Small Fires, “Everybody Knows”

More Top Picks from Recent Releases:

I’m behind on my music acquiring/listening, but that doesn’t mean you need to be…

Frightened Rabbit – Pedestrian Verse

I haven’t heard this album in its entirety, but I love this band so I’m sure it will be a must-have for my collection.

The Shadowboxers– Red Room

I recently discovered this Atlanta-based band, but I liked them so much their track “Sidewalk” made it on my 2012 Mix B-Sides. A couple weeks ago, they released an album, Red Room. I still need to dig into the album, but it’s near the top of my queue.

Coming Soon: The Bard Chronicles

Posted on February 11, 2013 by Amanda

You know, I am fortunate enough to go on a lot of musical adventures. I have been to Coachella, Bonnaroo, SXSW, and have taken random trips to see artists I love. I share these stories with my friends but for some reason I never post about them. I think it’s high time I change my ways. I’m still working on my catchy title (I’m open to suggestions) but I will be posting show reviews and music related jaunts. Oh, and if I start feeling nostalgic, expect some posts about shows of the past.

Coming Soon: Get Back Loretta at The Griffin

Debating whether to watch the Grammy’s tonight. I’ve only marginally paid attention to the nominations, but I do know there are a couple I’m rooting for. Ed Sheeran, The Lumineers, Halestorm, and Mumford & Sons being at the top of my list.

This weekend didn’t exactly go as planned so now I’m watching my favorite Hitchcock film and eating cookie dough wrapped in my Pepper’s Ghost hoodie. I miss films that make you think; think about film-making, think about the human condition, think about murder (any guesses as to the film I’m watching?).

Thinking about next week, there are many good shows, but if I could only go to one it would be Dear Boy Wednesday night at The Troubadour. Did you see this? http://www.localmusicnation.net/2013/02/01/new-band-alert-dear-boy/
