Woah! It’s Sunday and I’m updating the concert calendar! I assure you hell hasn’t frozen over! Ha ha ha. I’m up in wonderful LA doing some work with Kristen for LMN and some new friends and decided to have a vacation while I’m up here. It’s been very nice to do some work, go to shows I wouldn’t normally get to see, read, binge on Asian food, and relax. I’m very excited for what is coming up so keep your eyes peeled!

Kristen’s Concert Calendar: 6/7-6/13

This week I write to you from San Diego. Tonight I have a ticket to go see The Silent Comedy open for Mumford & Sons. Needless to say, there is a great deal of excitement involved. Friday night The Silent Comedy played at The Royal Dive in Oceanside so I decided to make a weekend of it in San Diego. Not that it’s been all fun and games…actually it’s mostly been paper-writing, but the change of location was good I suppose. And I get to see one of my favorite bands twice! And speaking of the marvelous The Silent Comedy, they are coming back up to LA June 17^th. Playing a NEW VENUE called Speakeasy over in the Silverlake area. Also playing that night: Queen Caveat! It’s gonna be a good one, so mark your calendar!

Hey All!

This is Amanda posting for Kristen. She has had a super busy and awesome weekend on the east coast and just flew back in (she left at 5:30 am east coast time!) to LA this morning. Needless to say, she is pretty tired and still running around going to lab and class. I don’t know how she does it. Anyways, below you will find her concert calendar. I’ll be sure to put mine up when I can…

So…I’m still reeling from Saturday night. I have no words…actually I have five pages of words, but have decided not to post them here. Maybe someday I’ll do a proper write up of what was one of my favorite band’s last show ever. The end of the Jealousy Curve era is officially upon us. Saturday night was an intense mixture of tears, hugs, stories, and most importantly face-melting rock music. This band has had such a major impact on my life over the past five years. I can’t really fathom my life without them, so I’m feeling a bit lost at the moment. I’m SO incredibly grateful for Pawnshop Roses and the show that they played tonight (Sunday)…even if I did have to drive across the state line into New Jersey to see it. They reminded me that I still do have a reason to come back and visit my former and beloved home of Philadelphia.

Flying back to LA tomorrow in time for a full week of concerting. Might be a tad on the depressed side this week, so come out and enjoy some music with me! Here are the options:

22. “Are You Fucking Kidding Me (The Facebook Song)” – Kate Miller-Heidke

I first saw Kate Miller-Heidke at The Hotel Cafe. I had no idea really what to make of this classically trained songstress who sang about how cruel she was in high school or this lovely ditty about a former lover resurfacing on facebook. Definitely unforgettable. Then I saw Kate at Coachella and cemented my love. The video below wasn’t taken by me, but it was the first time I saw this song performed live…

23. “Monsters, Demons, Accidents” – The Other Side of Morning

I thought my SXSW ’10 mix was complete until I saw The Other Side of Morning play a set at Harvelle’s in Santa Monica. I felt compelled to tack on another track…

Just got back from Warped Tour in Ventura with Amanda. Will hopefully get around to writing something about it and posting some of my pictures. It was by far the most pleasant (weather-wise) Warped I’ve ever been to…but I still managed to get a lovely burn on the shoulders. Fortunately this week’s planned activities are largely indoors.
And if you want to go out at all this week, might I suggest Thursday heading to one of the places participating in The Gulf Coast Benefit. (http://gulfcoastbenefit.com/#about) On this day, select venues around the country will be donating money from ticket sales to organizations aiding those impacted by the oil spill. Several LA establishments (including my picks at The Roxy and The Mint) are participating. If you’re not in LA, check the website to see if a venue near you is involved. Enjoy some great live music AND play a part in helping our country deal with its current economic and ecological crisis. You’ve seen the pictures…you know you want to do something…this sounds like a perfect opportunity to me!
