Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/15-8/21

The month of August is just flying by. It’s odd because I feel like I’ve spent most of the month sitting in front of my computer working. I guess time goes by faster when you aren’t having fun??  I did find enormous amounts of enjoyment today in watching golf on TV.  I think of the Olympic sports I’ve watched, golf might be my favorites this year. It’s certainly the only time I actually yelled out loud at the TV.

We’ve got several bands next week coming in from the east coast that I would highly suggest looking into.  Jimmy Gnecco and Mainland both come to The Hotel Cafe on Monday and Wyland play a couple shows at Silverlake Lounge and The Satellite. We’ve also got Echo Park Rising this weekend which was a great event last year. One of my favorite obsessions, The Olympic Games are here! We’re only a couple days in, but I’ve already enjoyed some cycling, archery, beach volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, water polo, volleyball, rugby, and fencing. I sadly do not have access to basketball, soccer, tennis, or equestrian sports (one of my favorites), but perhaps it’s for the best as I do still have a life to maintain.  I was extremely pleased to find yesterday that watching sports on TV went hand in hand with formatting manuscripts. I’m celebrating my productivity today with a trip down to Hermosa to see Brett Dennen…finally!

One more Comic Con down. High Voltage took things to another level this year and my schedule was mostly packed with press rooms, but I was able to get out to the floor and a few panels.  The best thing about Comic Con is all the amazing people that you meet anywhere you go, but, if interested, here is a recap list:

Favorite cast = iZombie

Favorite press room = Supernatural

Most anticipated new show =  The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake

Most anticipated new movie = Valerian

Most enjoyable panel = Orphan Black at Nerd HQ

Best swag = Marvel hat/Lucifer bag

Most amusing celeb run-in = being mistaken for a part of someone’s entourage (introduced himself as Scott maybe?)

Best extemporaneous chat = Tyler Hoechlin, about the All-Star celeb softball game (he was MVP)

Best hello = smile from Justin Timberlake

Best farewell = back to back hugs from Beau Smith and Tim Rozen of Wynonna Earp

Most unexpected “interview” = J Michael Straczynski

Most enjoyable pilot = Powerless

Favorite autograph = Sylvain Neuvel
Most delightful celebrity = Kirsten Vargass

Most star-struck moment = telling Antony Starr how much I love Banshee

SDCC winner = me, according to Jensen Ackles, for asking a question he had never been asked before
