Today is all about running errands, watching Coupling, listening to Joe Firstman, and finishing the book I’ve been reading. I’m desperately trying to reset myself for the week ahead.

There are plenty of exciting shows next week, but my pick of the week goes to Meg Myers at The El Rey Tuesday night. I’ve been loving her new album and Meg always puts on an incredibly dynamic performance. Bonus points for having Dark Waves as an opener.

Today appears to be a creepy crawly sits on your shoulder/$600 utility bill for a place you no longer live kind of day. I did get to play with a nice young woman’s puppy outside of a coffee shop so I suppose there was some brightness. New goal: work in a place that is pet friendly.

Last week was a busy one. From an intimate Jack Garratt show, dancing with Young Rising Sons, interviewing Aaron Bruno (AWOLNATION) before one of the best shows I’ve seen this year, and a full weekend of Comikaze craziness, I’m feeling a bit…tired? The first round of SXSW 2016 attending artists was released last week. I was overjoyed to begin my annual spreadsheet. I already have a small handful of artists I’m looking forward to checking out.  Sometimes I think I live only for a single week in March…

A close rival to SXSW Music Week is Rocktober which is sadly coming to a close. My top pick is the too good to believe combination of AWOLNATION, Meg Myers, and Irontom at The Fox Theater in Pomona Friday night. I had the pleasure of seeing Hozier perform last night for The Artist’s Den and I’ve been obsessively listening to his music all weekend. Talk about soothing for the soul! When I first heard that I had gotten into the performance there was a bit of a panic as I had made plans that night to see the triumphant return of UK’s A Silent Film to The Troubadour. One of my favorite music buddies came to the rescue when she suggested I join her earlier in the week on her trip to SD to see A Silent Film at The Casbah. Problem solved! It was a very eventful trip and I am glad everything worked out so well.

This week might involve more fancy footwork, especially Wednesday night when I hope to catch Frank Turner at The Musician’s Institute followed by San Diego’s Mrs. Henry at Harvard & Stone. My other show pick this week is Thursday night: The Royal Concept with Parade of Lights (!!) at Club Bahia. I have yet to get to this venue so I look forward to checking it out.

This week’s concert calendar is brought to you by season 4 of The X-Files. After all of the hullabaloo over The X-Files reboot at Comic Con NY, I felt the urge to watch a few old episodes.  I am quite jealous over the people who got an advance preview, but am excited that the reviews are generally positive. Is it January yet?

There are too many great musical options in LA this week. If you can only go to one show, might I suggest UK’s A Silent Film at The Troubadour Saturday night. Their self-titled album is released this week. It’s a good one!
