Sorry for the late post. Hopefully no one had a sleepless night not knowing what their concert schedule for the week was going to be (which would totally be me if I didn’t have my calendar together).  I actually took the weekend off (!) and got distracted by life – catching up with friends, the beginning of baseball season, spring cleaning, and an actual picnic at a park with blankets and cupcakes and even a dog! Then there was the rare Sunday evening show. AudioDamn! and Highly Suspect at The Troubadour. Wow! Just…wow! I’m still giddy and covered in sweat (unfortunately much of which is not mine).

The Troubadour continues to be the happening spot next week with Aurora and Tor Miller doing two nights, and The Wild Feathers. I should have just pitched a tent in the balcony or something.

This week I transitioned from SXSW into WonderCon where I walked amongst an interesting array of Deadpools, Disney characters, and superhero bunny rabbits (Happy Easter!). There are definite differences when it comes to interviewing musicians versus actors so it was an interesting change of pace. I guess my big takeaways from the convention are 1) I’m very much looking forward to the new show on SyFy, Wynonna Earp (the music in the first two episodes is on point!), 2) actors are generally on the short side and when they are tall, sometimes they will  awkwardly position themselves during interviews to be on your level (thanks, Chris Gorham!), and 3) always RSVP yes to parties that involve free bowling!

Thinking back to a week ago, a few of my top SXSW acts are in town this week. Lukas Graham (the establisher of my SXSW “Graham Bar” has two shows, sadly both sold out).  Wednesday night at Club Bahia is going to be a general re-play of my SXSW with another top pick, Banners along with three other great acts who were also in Austin. Finally, AudioDamn! is opening for a SXSW 2015 fave, Highly Suspect at The Troubadour Sunday night. It’s going to be a great week for music. Seriously.

Excited to NOT be in LA this week. Instead, I’ll be in Austin for SXSW. I’ve spent the last month putting my extensive schedule together for next week in TX, but I’ve still got you covered if you’ll be in Los Angeles. I think the show I’m most upset about missing would be Ben Rector and Gavin James at The Fonda Thursday night. My schedule is coming along nicely. It’s mostly full of new and potentially exciting bands to investigate, but there are a few known favorites sprinkled in there to help give me perspective. I hope to make some time this week to put together my top ten list of anticipated acts, so keep an eye out on the site for that.

I’ve done my research, but I have yet to fill out my official Oscar ballot. I don’t feel like there is a clear Best Picture winner this year which should make things a tad more exciting. I think I need to get a good walk in to finalize my selections before people come over.

In the meantime, planning for next week has me excited about seeing some new bands. We’ve got Rivvrs Tuesday night and Brothers and I on Saturday, two bands I’ve been listening to but have yet to see. And let’s not leave out The Wreks, who I had the pleasure of seeing open for Nothing But Thieves and are playing a free show downtown Monday night.

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet up with alumna from my college.  It’s been almost ten years (!?!) since I graduated and chatting with these women was a wonderful reminder of where I come from…made me feel far less the anomaly.
