Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 9/30-10/6

Holy crap what a crazy busy weekend I had! Once again this is the first time I’ve been on my computer since Thursday. I wasn’t even out of town this weekend! I worked a rodeo on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, had dinner with the lovely Lauren Ruggles and some other peeps for her birthday, and then went to see Dear Boy play the Griffin. It was their first show in San Diego ever! It was a good night with good people and good music, which always makes for a good time. Sunday was a snap back to the horse world of my life and it ended up being a long day in the sun.

Today is a good day though! I had a wonderful ride on my horse and I’m heading up to LA shortly to catch the last show of the Dear Boy residency at the Bootleg tonight. San Diego has a pretty busy week with Vampire Weekend, Jake Bugg, Bob Schneider, Phillip Phillips, Yellowcard, Get Back Loretta, and You Me at Six, just to name a few. Get your engines ready….

Well, Rocktober is indeed upon us. It would be quite easy to do a show a night all month long and not hit a weak one in the bunch. It also involves making a lot of hard choices and, if your schedule doesn’t permit going to shows every night, a lot of sacrifices. My top shows this week are mostly bigger names: Frightened Rabbit and Augustines, Matt Nathanson and Joshusa Radin, and the rock band that defined my high school years, Travis!

This is the first time I’ve been on my laptop since I left town on Friday morning for a wedding in New Hampshire. The wedding was super fun with good food, new friends, and some crazy good dance times. I got back in town yesterday and went to see Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and twenty one pilots that evening. I totally forgot how much fun a big arena show with great production can be. I’m spending today recovering from all the travel and dancing the last few days have held because there is so much stuff going on this week. I am currently watching The Emmy’s and the Cardinal’s baseball game. Neither are going as well as I’d hoped, but I suppose there is still time. I’m a little overwhelmed by what this next week has in store for me, but like it or not, here we go! There are too many musical events I’d like to attend. Well I’m finally recovered from the craziness of Saturday night and the San Diego Music Thing. After a kick ass set from The Silent Comedy, it was dinner with friends, The Hollerin, The Nervous Wreckords, and Transfer to end the night. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/16-9/22

I’ve been out of town all week, visiting friends and family on the east coast. It’s been great but I’m exhausted. I haven’t really had access to the computer or internet so that’s been different. Yesterday, I was in Philadelphia. I ate my favorite sandwich, played with a menagerie of animals (cats, dogs, rabbits, turtle…), met up with so many of my old concert buddies, and saw three of my favorite bands. The impetus for the trip was a reunion show for the band Jealousy Curve, a group that changed my life back in college. Seeing them take the stage once again made me heart happy and oh so nostalgic as this band pretty much marked the epitome of certain time in my life.  An added bonus was that the band played with another Philly-fave, Silvertide. It was an epic rock show. And because sometimes life does work out in one’s favor, I was able to catch a pre-show performance from Alright, Junior, another band that is near and dear to my heart. Add in my Thursday night when I got to see two Pawnshop Roses play some old and new tunes, and I pretty much got a taste of all my favorite Philadelphia bands!

This AM, I woke up in pastoral Maryland. Due to the fact that I didn’t see a bed until after 5am, I’m a little foggy…we used to call it the concert hangover. I’ll be back in LA mid-week, but I haven’t yet put much thought into that. Still, I do what I can to help you all in your concert planning…here’s my list:

LMN Band Exam: Sam Grow

Southern Maryland native Sam Grow has been touring all over the U.S. and has stopped in San Diego to play at Lestats tomorrow! We asked this multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter a few questions about touring and his life in general.
