Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/4-2/10

Today’s lesson learned: Never loiter on the Biffy Clyro website. Get in, get the information you came for, and get out before clicking on anything that says “shop”.  I’ve never wanted to learn how to skateboard more than after seeing the Ellipsis skate deck.  Then I thought, “that would look cool on a wall!”  I am in the beginning stages of decorating my new apartment. It’s pretty bare, but I do have random “Where is Biffy Clyro?” magnets in various places so we have already established a theme…

Speaking of favorite bands who rarely play, this week we have a REAL treat Monday night at The Troubadour when Reeve Carney & The Revolving Band play with a lineup that looks suspiciously similar to when I first saw this band over a decade ago. This is a can’t miss!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/21-1/27

I am feeling a bit of a sugar crash, but that is to be expected at the end of an event dubbed Boba Tour 2019.  We were able to get to six places across the greater Los Angeles area. They all had their merits, but my favorite drink of the day was something called Autumn Fairy at Bubble U in Chinatown.  It was a productive week for boba and for music as I was able to sample 10+ new acts last week including a full set with new material from indie rockers, Overstreet (a new LA must see).

I am excited to continue the new music binge next week, but I am most looking forward to re-discovering a band I haven’t seen in 13 years, The Pink Spiders, who will be in LA Thursday night.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/14-1/20

Yesterday was a big day for me. After about 2 years of looking, and thanks to some very special people who didn’t mind lifting things in the rain, I finally moved into a place of my own! It seems very empty and it’ll probably be awhile before I get around to furniture and whatnot, but it has a kitchen and a whole separate room for sleeping so I’m stoked!  Speaking of this newfangled thing called a kitchen, if anyone has any kitchen supplies that they are trying to get rid of, I am in the market to expand my kitchen belongings past three bowls, two spoons, a knife, and a pizza cutter (I have no clue where that last one came from).

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/07-1/13

I’m pretty sure I’ve listened to nothing but Biffy Clyro all year! Okay, small lie. I snuck in some Alanis Morrissette and Joe Firstman; classic comfort music. I’d love to talk about all of the live shows I’ve seen, but due to some recent stressors in both my home and work lives, I haven’t gotten out much. Amidst the turmoil, I had a lovely and restorative dinner with some good friends. 2019 is off to a rocky start, but I feel like if I can focus on the good things that are stable, I’ll make it through.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/31-1/6

This week, another year comes to a close. I put together this whole “best of” 2018 document.  A lot of it revolves around all the traveling I was able to do (best food = Mag Mud at Magnolia’s in Austin; best art = galleries around the Hi Line in NYC; best concert = being on stage with Frank Turner at SXSW).  One of my top accomplishments of the year is finally starting an online catalogue of all of the shows I’ve been to.  I totaled 206 in 2018 and now I’m working my way backwards.  Of course, my recap includes my 2018 Music Mix! Here’s the Spotify version (B-Sides still to come): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Mbx9QKPP7NLVtQ9DcfEOn.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/24-12/30

This week, as expected, is exceptionally light on shows around Christmastime. To fill my evenings, I have taken on several pet-sitting gigs. I get to spend a few days taking care of two dogs and three cats!  I’m using my pet sitting money on a ticket to see a live musical version of my favorite Christmas movie, Love Actually, so that will be a very fun musical adventure to look forward to.  I hope everyone has equally exciting plans for the last week of 2018!

There are more promising shows later in the week. I’d love to check in with Lydia at the Teragram Ballroom and you never know who might show up at the Purple Bite Holiday Party at the Hi Hat.

Here’s what I could find:

Monday:

Tuesday: Merry Christmas!

Weds: Seahaven at Teragram Ballroom (8pm)
ALSO: Soundcheck Live w/ The Gitas at Lucky Strike Hollywood (9pm)

Thursday: Lydia w/ Anarbor, Family Thief at Teragram Ballroom (8pm)
ALSO: Rocco Deluca FREE at Zebulon (8pm)
ALSO: DeathByRomy, The AquaDolls at Moroccan Lounge (7:30)

Friday: FXP ft. Franky Perez at The Viper Room (8:30)

Saturday: Purple Bite Holiday Party FREE at The Hi Hat (8pm)
ALSO: An Evening with Puddles Pity Party at the Fonda Theatre (9pm)

Sunday: Laura Veirs at Moroccan Lounge (7:30)
ALSO: Donavon Frankenreiter at Saint Rocke (8pm)
ALSO: Gin Blossoms at The Rose (8pm)
