Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/17-8/23

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/3-8/9

Although not the original plan, I somehow ended up at The Palladium for the AWOLNATION show last night. As you might expect at any AWOL show, things got a bit crazy. My feet today are sore from all of the dancing. The real treat, however, was to see one of my favorite bands, Irontom, open up the show on such a big stage. I’m not sure how many times I’ve said it, but if you don’t know Irontom, you should really check them out. They will be going back on the road with AWOLNATION when that band returns from a little European tour.

Show pick this week goes to Nashville’s The Delta Saints who are playing The Mint on Tuesday along with Robert Jon & The Wreck and Roses and Cigarettes. Oh, and if anybody has an extra ticket to see Gary Lightbody at Largo on Saturday…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 7/27-8/2

Last night was a classic adventure with multiple bands/venues, long walks, and musical discoveries. My original intention was to go downtown to see The Diamond Light at Mrs. Fish and then hop over to Chinatown for some of the Summer Nights event. When a friend told me she would be at Pershing Square, I looked up who was playing and saw Joseph Arthur was opening for Rickie Lee Jones. How could I miss that?!?  I’d long been wanting to see Joseph Arthur and not only did he play “Honey and The Moon”, but he upped the ante and added a whole new layer to the performance when he began painting while he was performing.

After catching a couple songs from Rickie Lee Jones, I hopped over to Mrs. Fish. While grooving with The Diamond Light, I ran into another friend who told me that I simply must see this band playing there at midnight.  “They will change your life”, he said. “I’ll do my best”, I said. Chinatown was only a mile and a half away, so we walked it and made it in time to catch SWIMM commanding the packed square. If you have yet to see SWIMM, I’d recommend doing it sooner rather than later. After that, the indomitable Andy Clockwise conducted a dance party. There was confetti, hand-holding circles, songs not suitable for children…the usual craziness expected of a Clockwise show…  Then we bustled back to Mrs. Fish for the end of Eyes on The Shore, a band from San Francisco that will certainly be making my concert lists in future.

Speaking of concert lists, here’s mine for this week:

Monday: Sonny Boy Thorn FREE at The Satellite (11pm)
ALSO: Hunnypot live FREE at the Mint (7pm)
