Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/21-1/27

So excited by what is going on in LA this week, music-wise. One of my new favorite Brit Bands, Leogun have returned to the area playing shows on Tuesday and Thursday. This along with shows from The Ten Thousand, Sabrosa Purr, Rival Tides, We Were Indians, Sad Robot, and of course the three-day Band of Skulls/Muse combo, suggest this will be a great week to rock out. Let’s do it!

This early post comes to you from sunny LA. I drove up here Friday for a mini vacation, show, and some quality hang out time. Sadly, I return home later today and have some serious homework to catch up on but the fun times here are well worth it. San Diego gets the pleasure of kicking off the Muse Tour with Band of Skulls at Valley View Casino Center tomorrow night. What a show that will be! Some new music that has come out recently that I’ve been digging or feel the need to dig into:

The Delta Saints– Death Letter Jubilee

Let’s just say, Tennessee’s The Delta Saints found their way into my life at the perfect moment. Their brand of foot-tapping, soul-rising rock was just wanted I need when their new album, Death Letter Jubilee found its way to my ears.  I was in love at first listen and cannotstop listening. I’d highly recommend picking up their album so you can join me in my newest band love. You can get it off their website, as well as iTunes, and amazon.

Free Energy– Love Sign

 When I think of Free Energy I think of fun. I think of pop. I think “let’s dance”. From what I’ve heard of their sophomore album, Love Sign, they are delivering exactly what I want. Looking forward to some Free Energy dance parties!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/14-1/20

Only two weeks into the new year and I already have some new band obsessions. Last Friday’s show at The Hotel Cafe with Red Wanting Blue was the most entertaining and energetic show I’ve been to this year. The Ohio-based band doesn’t come to LA that often, but they had the room in a frenzy. They also have great taste in openers as they selected one of my personal favorites, The Young Romans. Since Friday, I have not been able to stop listening to Red Wanting Blue’s albums…except to listen to a few other recent favorites, The Delta Saints’ Red Letter Jubilee (out this Tuesday!), Mother Mother’s recent release, The Sticks, and European duo Boy’s Mutual Friends.

This year is already so musically bountiful!

This upcoming week looks pretty singer-songwriter heavy for me. I think I’m most excited about Saturday at The Roxy. I mean, how many years has it been since Teddy Geiger appeared on that canceled way too soon TV show about the music talent scout played by Tom Cavanaugh? I was instantly drawn to the show and the young promising talent.
